Legislative Affairs Team

The Legislative Affairs Team provides legal advice, guidance, and representation on issues relating to state and federal legislative efforts for the County.  Working closely with the County’s Office of Intergovernmental Relations, the team’s attorneys support the County’s legislative agenda by identifying and advising on legislative advocacy that benefits the County and its operations and services; supporting the County’s proactive work to sponsor and/or support or oppose bills in areas of interest, including preparing written position materials, testifying, and engaging in other advocacy on proposed legislation; tracking legislative developments; and assisting with advising on implementation of chaptered bills.  The team includes a Legislative Deputy County Counsel in Sacramento as well as several attorneys in the County’s San José office.  The team’s practice is wide-ranging in subject matter and involves significant coordination within the Office of the County Counsel, across the County, and with partners throughout the state and nation.
